This past weekend I had my muffler man install a flowmaster 40 on my dually and man was I surprised. This thing sounds like a mustang when I go through the gears. I love the way it sounds, I had the machanic install the flow where the stock one was and then turn both 3 in. outlets out in front of the dual wheels angled with the dually humps. They run out side by side with 3 inch chrome tips with the slant turned to angle with the dually humps. I had the machanic off set the lengths with the back one run out to the edge of the outside edge of the tire (back about an inch) and the front go out just past the side of the truck giving it that harly-davison look and man does it talk. With the pipes run out the side you can really hear that flowmaster sound that make it so famous. I can tell a big difference in power it will really scream from 2500 rpm up. I have not checked for mpg yet for I am still playing with the pipes, they really do rock. I will try to get some pics soon and post them.
That sounds awesome! I'd like to see some pics of your setup. My truck is a crew cab short bed, not dually.
Is the new exhaust really loud IN the cab? Let me know how it has affected your MPG, if any, as well as your off the line acceleration/throttle response.
I did the Flowmaster on a Yukon about 7 years ago and what a nice difference in sound, mpg, power, and rpm for driving. It raised the sweet spot (where the motor really feels good going down the road) by 5 - 10 mph higher. Just had to be careful with the speed.
Never did it with the Ford truck. Power was fine anyway.
On my next truck, a v-10 I think, I will do it again.
