Any snorer's here?

Hi guys. My girlfriend has REALLY been on my case lately about my snoring. She's not getting any sleep, and when she doesnt get sleep neither do I. Mainly because of the poking I get all night. It used to be okay as long as I got onto my side, but recently I will snore in that position as well. I used one of those CPAP devices for a while, it worked but I couldnt stand having a mask over my face all night. Ive been looking at those mouthpiece like devices that bring your lower jaw forward which are supposed to open up the airway.

Are there any other heavy snorers out there, and have any of you discovered any solutions to it? My girlfriend and I would be much appreciated.

-Matt

What about those nose strips or that stuff you spray in your mouth before you go to sleep. Never tried them, so don't know if it really works.

I also tried a CPAP, and I never once could fall asleep with it on.
I also tried two of the mouthpiece type appliances my dentist made, I could sleep in the first one, but it didn't help with the snoring,if anything, made it worse.
A couple years later he found out a new way to make them. The second one locked in real good, but was uncomfortable, and I couldn't sleep in it. He didn't charge me anything since they didn't work.
The only thing that really helps is to lose weight, sometimes 10 lbs makes a difference.
Good Luck,
Al

I use a mouth guard, & have tried some nasal spray (saline only to open them up), the nose strips, sleeping on my side. ...... All have some effect, but the problem is still there.

I need to lose 50 lbs, that will help.

Also, I avoid dairy and especially ice cream before bed--any time after say 4PM or it is twice as bad.

I used antihistamines for a while, but their effectiveness and the need for them (end of spring time) went away.

I have also fiddled with the adjustment of heat or A/C to avoid drafts or wrong temps that cause nasal congestion.

I even tried Vapo-rub on the upper lip. Works ok in extreme congestion situations, but who wants that stuff every night.

I've known a couple of guys who had surgery. Didn't totally solve the problem, so I'm not red hot about that.

Try things one at a time and in combo's.

Don't forget to stop drinking alcohol in the PM. Drink first thing in the morning if you must drink. That way it won't cause you to snore at night.

Losing weight would probably be #1, im 20 to 30 lbs over weight. I dont eat before bedtime, and I only drink on occassion. I never had too much of a problem until I started body building several years ago. None of my prior girfriends ever complained about snoring. I went from 210lbs at 6'3 to my current 285lbs. By no means am I seriously overweight, just 20-30lbs. The doctor said that my chest actually shifts it weight towards my throat when im on my back making the situation worse, but I dont think its the cause. I feel so guilty sometimes that I will get up in the middle of the night and sleep in my spare room and blast away. Im willing to try anything at this point.

Lose weight. Also a "anti-snore" pillow. I got one from Obus forme, it didn't stop the snoring, but reduced it by half (or more).

My husband snores and it has only gotten worse over the years. He needs to lose about 20 pounds and I know that drinking alcohol worsens the snoring, too.

I have been poking him in the sides nightly for the last 10 years and it has gotten to the point now that all I have to do is tell him to turn onto his side and he does. Half the time he will turn onto his side after he has woken himself up by snoring so loud.

I, on the other hand, do not get a solid night's sleep because of his snoring and I also worry about him dying in his sleep from sleep apnea. It's scary!

I have considered sleeping on the sofa, bu I worry that he might not wake up if I am not there to poke him and make him turn onto his side. Am I being too cautious? He really doesn't have any complaints (about the poking, that is), but he is tired a lot during the day. I know it is because he does not get a solid night of sleep, EVER! And neither do I!

A friend of mines wife used to snore. My friend said she snored so much he couldn't sleep. They tried all those stop snore remedys and non seemed to help. They finally went to a doctor and she got a minor operation in the outpatient dept. They say she no longer snores. I believe minor surgery would be better than those masks and things like that

If you wake up drinking, snoring would be the last thing you need to worry about

i don't agree. being overweight is not the reason a person snores. i weigh 165 & i'm 6' 1". i snore occasionally & my wife lets me know about it. the only thing i haven't tried is minor surgery. thats next because if the spouse ain't happy, nobody's happy!:-)

Dont snore too bad.
Worked with a guy who snored....and real bad sleep apnea. He was real jerk. I mean so bad, I cant post here what kinda guy he was. He knew....and didnt care.

One day, he took a week off. He came back to work......shook every persons hand, and apologized for being so mean and hateful all the time. He was very sincere.
Two things changed his life for the better.
Breathing assistance
Apnea Surgery
Ofourse there are herbal remedies, chin straps, nasal strips...all kinds of stuff.

I'm sure thats far more than you wanted to know.....but I'm on a roll.

True enough about the overweight, but being overweight percipitates snoring. So you don't have to be overweight to snore; but by being overweight doesn't help it.

I had my head x-rayed and it showed most of the sinus and airway passages were very small. The doctor used something like a small dremmel tool and rotor rooted the passages open. I still snore but not nearly as bad
