Question Overhead computer and tripmeter resetting themselves...

Hi all,

Has anyone had a problem with the overhead computer and tripmeter resetting themselves? I took my truck to my local dealer because of this problem. They suspected a water leak somewhere, but they couldn't find it. Of course, they couldn't see the forrest through the trees and didn't investigate the actual problem beyond looking for the water leak.... UGH!!! Anyway, I've called them back and asked whether they did anything other than look for the leak, they said no and that they want me to bring it back over to them. It's getting a bit frustrating now, but I don't want to have to buy (or have FORD buy) a new computer in the middle of my cross-country move this December.
Please, if anyone else has had this problem, tell me what Ford did to fix it.

Thanks, Rob

Tim, my apologies, I should have known better... '04, 6oh, CC, Short bed, 4x4 with the running lights. They checked around the running lights AND around the sunroof for leaks. The problem is a bit confusing to me though. Does the overhead computer and the tripmeter (on your odometer) tie together somehow? It seems like the only place they'd tie together is the actual truck computer. If so, I would assume that the tripmeter and overhead are basically 'repeaters' of what the truck's main computer is figuring and logging. If that assumption is correct, then would water leaks elsewhere cause the same problem? I'm guessing that there is a computer problem, not a water leak...
Thanks, Rob

Sounds like maby when they installed the clearance lights they might have hit one of the wires that run across the roof and down the a or b post, not sure on which post they go down but you can drop the head liner down yourself and check...then you dont have that parts changer gettin his greasey mitts all over it....Just a thought...if you dont want to drop the headliner yourself have them do it....I'll bet that is your problem.
