Pedal Mod

This morning I did a partial pedal mod on my 01. It is amazing how this affected my accelerator response. All I did was bend the tab on the IVS. I also rotated the TPS all I could, but is wasn't much. Sure did help response!

I think the delayed response problem was on the 99-03's. But if you had a problem with yours I would assume you could do it. I would think the setup would be the same, not sure though.

Why is it that the manufacturers build trucks with parts you have to "reengineer" to work properly ?

Why is it that the manufacturers build trucks with parts you have to "reengineer" to work properly ?
Part of the reason is that there are manufacturing tolerances, and many manufacturers have found that working withing these limits is cost effective for them. What we're trying to do here on this forum is to fine tune our trucks to optimize their potential. In doing so, we're adjusting various operating parameters to the edge of the tolerances in place when the trucks were maunfactured.
Another reason is that our trucks were engineered to operate satisfactorily in any part of the world, in any climate. The trucks come off the assembly line built the same for Alaska as they are for Texas, and the same for New England as they are for Arabia. To build a truck that will do reasonably well under any circumstances requires that some compromises have to be made.

Sorry Quad , it was a rhetorical question ! I drove for an auto parts manufacturer ( first tier ) for 22 years , and have been in all of the auto makers plant over the years . I've seen thier "quality control" and know how in a lot of cases "close" is good enough ! Although it has gotten much better there is room for improvement still . I understand the tolerance thing but they get what they pay for when it comes to the parts they out source , and I'm not talking out side our country but all suppliers , the one I worked for included .

Smile Pedal mod.

Hello everyone!!!
I have been a member for quite some time but havent posted yet.
First off you all have a great deal of info, and I think its great that everyone is so helpful.
I used the above link to try the pedal mod on my 01 4x4 cc psd. I found that the setup on my truck is different than what is shown in the instructions, but I figured what the heck, I will tear it apart and find out whats going on inside my assembly.
I dont have the small "snap action switch" insine of mine. There was a set of 4 "wipers" that were basicly embedded on a small circuit board???!!!
Anyone else run into this yet? If so, what is the best way to handle this problem? I was thinking of calling around and see if I can get one from the bone yard..
My smoker is bone stock except for a "tymar" style intake. ( I fabbed an adapter to fit the stock hose from the turbo to a stock Fram canister filter.)
I will post some pics and some vital soon.
Thanks again for all the help everyone provides!
