I have a 1986 F-150, 351W, C-6, with a New Process NP-208 transfer case.
I had the truck in a field the other day, and I could not get the case into low range. It goes smoothly from 2WD to 4WD high, but stops at neutral--can't budge it from there. The transfer case was re-built a couple years ago and fluid is up and clean (went into low fine back then).
I must admit, I don't use 4x4 that often. I was wondering what I should start looking for.
Check the shifter out most likely its rusted up and won't let it go into 4 lo.
We have had 3 150's in the 80's go thru the shop in the last 3 mo with the same problem . Lots of PB blaster@ time.
I HOPE THIS HELPS! HOTWRENCH
Thanks Hotwrench, I'll check it out. I am just responding now because my computer has been disconnected for a few days to allow for some painting and wallpapering.
