E4OD wierd overdrive problem

I posted this in another area but I'll try here. 91 Bronco, 351, E4OD, 140,000. Thing runs great, but lately it seems that when the OD is switched off the RPM's will drop to idle no matter what the vehicle speed when coasting. No engine braking when going down hill (this should be in 3rd). When gas applied RPM's are normal for 3rd and shifts back into OD no problem. In reading a millon posts it seems I am the only one with this problem. Vehicle shifts good in all gears except under hard acceleration, then they sometimes (not always) get harsh. I am mainly concerned about the apparent lack of lockup or whatever when turning OD off for engine braking. No good for trailer towing or long mountain decents. Although reading about the problems with this tranny I guess I should feel lucky. haven't checked codes (I will) but OD light not blinking, so who knows.

Any expert's and guru's input greatly appreciated. Trying to avoid the rebuild.

Do you have engine braking with the shifter in 1 or 2? If so, you have a bad solenoid or a wiring problem. If not, the coast clutch has failed and the trans needs a rebiuld.
