I have a 01 f350 with the electric 4 wheel drive. I turn the switch and nothing happens. I have waited the 45 seconds, checked the fuses.
What else could it be? Could the switch be bad? I checked the connections on the transfer case and at the shifter and they seem tight.
My 99 F250 SD 4x4 did the same thing.. If you can manually lock in the hubs,
this indicates that the vaccum that controls the electric switch is leaking.
(Not an easy repair), must take apart the the hub, there is a rubber band
like gasket and while you are in there replace the bearing gasket. If you take
it to the dealer they will want to replace the hubs I was quoted 1200.00 +
to replace both sides. Parts were under $100.00. Good Luck
NOPE I AIN'T SAYING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you know me you know why I ain't saying it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you try going into 4lo ? atleast you will hear it shift if its only the front hubs not locking .also did the lights on the dash change or blink?
chk the following
fuses
relays
switch
harness
vacum hoses to front hubs
hub seal (you can use a handheld vacum source to chk the hubs)
just a few things
I have tried 4 low and high. I have also locked the hubs. I am getting NO indicator light on the dash or any sounds. The indicator light bulb is good as it lights up when the truck starts.
I think its an electrical problem. I was hoping someone else may have had the same problem.
thanks for the replys and please keep them coming.
the lighs will only light if the trannsfer case gear actually moves and engages the drive shaft properly. The tranfer case has a plastic worm drive shaft inside which strips when its old. You have to replace the whole tfr case unit as its sealed and not servicable. You can remove the unit and crank the gear with a wrench to manually check the opeation of 4x4 drive shaft and the switching on of the light.
Also with the trf case runit removed and hanging from its wires, you can test the electrics by turning the dash switch and hear if the motor is operating.
Put it in 4wd and drive forward and see if the front drive shaft turns. If it does that means the tranfer case is switching. If you manually lock the hubs then you will have 4wd. if the case is not switching then as said previous..
As far as the lights on the dash they could be blown...
Also sorry for the prev post I get that way sometimes.
