Does anyone have a good headlight system in their trucks? I know that Silverstars have 9008, and so do some others now. I want real HID though. I know that some of them are illegal now. I looked up the Catz Zeta system, good idea, but dont really feel like chopping up the wiring in a BRAND new truck. Walmart specials are great, until you actually have to see the road! And forget it if it's been raining. Cant even see the road. Might as well turn em off and conserve power Anyone know about these "japanise" import ones? Dont really trust them to not blow up or something. Also, I've heard of some of these HID and bulb kits actually melting or deforming the headlights! Anyone know about this?
You don't get HID by just replacing the bulbs. HID ( high intensity discharge) is a total system that has it's own unique power supply to charge the Xenon gas. Just changing the bulb will get you a nice colored bulb. Not even close to HID! It'sa mis nomer to call a bulb HID, HID bulbs cost over a $100 bucks. These so called blue bulbs are just that blue. The melting you hear about is from someone taking the DOT approved wattage bulb that is already in your truck and replacing them with 80 to 100watt low beams! The heat from these are hot enough to melt connectors and wires! Based on the information out there the only good upgrades to DOT approved Halogens are the Silverstars, but I don't think you can get them in the bulb type Ford uses!
we used to all get the ballast and stuff form the markVIII or whatever it was called and then retrofitting it, so lincoln jacked up the prices for those components.
silverstars should be good enough for now. how many watts are the 9008s? i like the 100 watt h1 my car runs.
