Unplugging A/C compressor

I was amazed to see the compressor kicking on and off even when I had the **** on VENT or HEAT or DEFFROST. With gas @ $2.00 I though maybe unplugginf for winter becuase I sure dont need any A/C. Today truck seems smoother without the constant speeding up and slowing down noticable at stoplighs as compressor kicks off.on. Any ideas (pro vs con) about doing this?

with the switch on DEFROST, the ac pump SHOULD cycle off and on, or stay on.
the dry air....removes moisture-aka condensation, from your windows...
I drove an old jeep j 10 truck in the winter of 97, with no defroster, was not fun, m uch less when it froze rain, one night, and I was working 2nd shift, middle of december, and the temp was about 5 below zero, that night...

Question

Could a bad pressure switch over at the accumulator cause the compressor to cycle like that???

Ac will cycle some to keep lube flowing in the system. However not on\off rapidly. It could simply be low on charge and need to be recharged.

I have a toggle switch in my Ranger for turning off the compressor when defrost is on. Make sure to allow the AC to run for 5 minutes a week to keep the system lubed. Other than that there should be no problems. I think the auto companies wire them that way so that 1. the AC system gets a workout even in winter and 2. it pulls the humidity out of the air to clear the winshield faster.
