I don't know if anybody else has noticed this before, but I can't get my truck to smoke anymore! I'm assuming it's the colder weather (been in thte 50's) and I'm just getting more air in the mix compared to the warmer weather. I'll run it on 110hp, lock my TC up and let it lug in 2nd gear, usually I can leave a HUGE cloud of smoke, today I couldn't even get a wiff. Haven't noticed any real lose in power, been towing with it a lot lately, wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it.
I guess no more smoking out rice burners for me anymore.
I guess I never thought about that, could be a possibility. But I usually fill up from a couple of different places within a week or so, unless they all have a scheduled time or temperature that they have to have the winter blend fuel.
Yep - it's that time of year again. All I can manage is 2 measely little puffs out of my stacks now that it's cool outside. Kinda stinks!!! And in the cold weather - if you do manage a little smoke - it seems real gray - instead of the good black you normally get. O well - winter can't be that long can it...........

I wouldn't hold my breath cat, I'm originally from northern PA. and all the family back home is talkin that it is supposed to be a tough winter this year.
I'm probably one of the few actually looking forward to winter. I'm always out snowmobiling, so the more snow the better. I guess you can't have it all, give up a smokin' truck for snowmobiling, at least I'll have something to look forward to for the summer.
So it makes no sense to me why you guys "want" this black smoke that robs your fuel efficiency and creates high EGT's that could meltdown certain parts.
Dont you guys know that any smoke out of a diesel means its improperly tuned or has a mechanical (usually injectors) problem?
*edit* the only exception to this is when you first start up and you have the white smoke from not being warm *edit*
I know its cool and everything (the black smoke).. but realistically.. its not right for a properly tuned diesel.

Reason: Diesels smoke when cold... only reason they should smoke.
Diesel 1 is about 90-95% kerosene(I think), but I dont think thats the cause. I live where they use #2 the whole year, and my dad knows stuff about how things react and such, and kerosene should still soot-up, I'll have to ask him if it would as much as reg. diesel, so it might be something else.

'Cause it's COOL!! Plus when you can puff a little smoke - it lets someone know that they aren't about to try to race a "stock" truck. I never would have put stacks on my truck if I couldn't blow a little black out of 'em when I want to. O yea - did I mention it's cool!!

I guess that depends on your definition of "properly tuned". Mine makes nearly double it's stock horsepower, has no EGT issues of any sort, gets the same milage it did stone stock.....and smokes like a demon when I lay the smack down on the skinny pedal.
the more black smoke the better...i just haven't gotten too much of yet it with my simple mods. but i do love seeing the faint haze of it cruizin up I-35 at night and rompin on it and seein it cover 2 lanes and winter? whats that? it was 91 today and humid as all get out. oh well, it might cool down evetually in good ol' San antonio...
