2004 F150 ext cab ---> stereo help

I have a 2004 f150 extended cab and have 2 JL audio w0 subs and a kenwood 600watt amp hooked to the stock speakers and headunit.

I installed everything and the subs face downward into the floor and it's not very loud at all. The box I bought off ebay fits nicely under the back seat and is as big as I can make it.

Is there something else that would be making it sound bad? Are the stock speakers that bad? I read something online that as you turn the volume up --the system cuts bass to keep sound quality..if that is true am I wasting sound w/ the stock speakers? Let me know!

Have you turned up the gain on your amp? That should make the subs louder. Then, you won't have to turn up the head unit as much to get more bass. Regarding the speakers, they really aren't that bad. BUT, the head unit does cut bass as the volume is turned up in order to keep distortion at a minimum. I'm guessing your amp is just going to the subs. If more gain doesn't help, you may want to think about a second amp to drive some new speakers.

Hope this helps!

What size sub? What size enlosure do you have for the subs? If it's too small they might not sound that great... Otherwise I would just try turning the gain up on the amp... Also, see if your amp has a bass enhancement feature...

Subs are 10" JL audio W0's.

The box goes from one side of the backseat (under it) to the other. It steps up for the hump and sits perfectly flush w/ the front of the seats and the top. It's not super small but it's not very large.

Without actually getting into your truck and seeing what the heck is going on, I would say that the subs could be wired out of phase. This is when one sub is wired right - + wire to + terminal and - wire to - terminal; and then the other one has the + wire to - terminal and - wire to + terminal. This effectively has the 2 subs cancel each other out. Hence no bass.

Sounds like they are out of phase to me. Try unhooking one of them while it playing, but just one.

it should get louder if they're out of phase by unhooking one correct?
