Hello all! So I've completely upgraded my sounds system in my 79 f150 single cab with aftermarket deck, door speakers, rear speakers, tweeters, rear sub, amp, and
Running all the wiring for this I thought I had it nailed.
But 2 months into the system being installed I have a bad connection at the door jam going to the door speaker and tweeter. What is the best way to finish this connection so it doesn't get smashed in the Jam?
Hmm those would be interesting, I've never heard of them. Have you used them before?
Nope.. just suggestion.
But I would think your installation would have used grommets. Try to leave one tight around the wires and the other grommet loose so the wrapped/sheathed bundle can slide in and out freely.
I didn't have grommets, just wrapped well with electrical tape. But it didn't get cut from the metal holes in the door or cab. It seemed to pinch and fold the wire in the "slack" I left until the tape, wire sheath and finally the wire broke.
I couldn't find grommets when i did my door speaker install, so I made my own by taking rubber vacuum line, splitting it, and gorilla gluing it in place in the door jamb. It works, but i drilled my holes about 6" offset vertically, so it naturally had enough slack to open and close properly, however i feel it will get pinched in the door jamb switch. If i had to do it again, I'd move the holes below that.
I used fuel line as a wire loum only afixed one side solid so the other side would slide in and out of the door as it opened and closed so there would not a pinch point.
Full open there was about 1/2" of hose inside the door. and the wires had slack in them to move.
Don't have that vehicle any more and don't have a pic of what I did.
Hit the local JY for this harness....here are your door hole drilling measurements. The last 2 pics are the cab measurements, cab hole is measured from the top of the door hinge.
I'm excited to try some of these ideas! Thanks guys and that original grommet looks like it would do well. I'll definitely be looking for that part of the harness
