I have a 1986 F150- 302 EFI and it intermittently stalls and will not start for a few minutes. It did it once when I came to a stop and once it did it at about 60 mph. Does anybody know what could be wrong? , or where to look first? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
A code check would help probably. Coils often quit only when hot at first. It could be many things, loose electrical connection just about anywhere.
Does switching tanks help? Any idea if it is electrical (spark) or fuel?
I would run a code check and if nothing, next time it does it, check for spark. Note if it seems to only do it when engine is hot etc. The more symptoms the better so we have more to work with.
Try cracking the gas cap loose on the fuel tank, and see if it fires back up. If it does, likely a fuel pump or plugged air intake filter for the fuel tank. Fuel filter could also cause this problem.
My first guess would be a coil. They heat up faster than the engine since they are firing thousands of times in a just a few minutes but I would try to run a code check first.Basic scanners are cheap, only about $30 or so at WMT.
