advice please...
i have a '99, 4 cylinder sport model that i bought with 40K
i'm approaching 60K, and feel as though i should get it serviced - i've had no problems thus far...
and i don't have a manual
i love my truck, am far from a mechanic, and hate going to see one - but it must be done
i'd like to go in with a list of things to (a) replace, (b) adjust, and (c) check-up
any advice would be awesome
anything extra-ordinary i should look out for?
thanks,
ben
1. change oil and filter
2. inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums,brake lines & hoses, and parking brake system
3. inspect cooling system and hoses
4. inspect exhaust and heat shields
5. inspect steering linkage, suspension, and if equipped driveshaft and balljoints
6. inspect tires for wear and rotate
7. replace engine air filter
8. replace fuel filter
9. inspect accessory belts
10. If manual transmission, replace tranny fluid
11. Repack wheel bearings and replace seals, and adjust bearings
Take truck to ford and they will replace the PCV valve for free. This only applys on the 2.5 engine at 60,000 miles. At 120,000 the customer has to pay for the PCV valve.
Thanks for using FTE!

If it were mine, I'd almost automatically change the spark plugs (at least check/regap), change the distributor cap/rotor (if applicable) and change the coolant at this time -- all relatively inexpensive things to do. Consider having the brake fluid flushed as well, also an inexpensive job. Much cheaper than a seized caliper down the road, that's for sure.
