Adding Cruise help please?
I am seeking some enlightenment on adding cruise control to my STX.
I am told that all my truck needs is the cruise control steering wheel. Sold here for example

It’s net cheaper from my local dealer at 162 plus tax.
The prices vary at the 6 dealerships I called 162-193.
That’s not the problem. Not one of the six dealerships know if you have to reprogram the PCM to use the cruise.
Much worse, not one of the six dealerships knew how to install it. Lowest price was 240 for labor ranging to 550 labor. The kit says 1 hour labor, to install yourself…
It’s obvious that NONE of the dealerships knows it is a by wire throttle. They all talked about vacuum canisters and throttle cables.
Ouch.
When I asked they either got angry or told me that they didn’t know the 2004 was different from the2003. A seventh dealership told me that they knew it was different, but Ford will not allow them to install cruise controls, and that they had to farm it out.
So I will have to do the job myself, but am looking for anyone who has done the job. Judging by the non cruise steering wheels for sale on Ebay others must be doing this.
