Does the Speedometer quit during that time, the sensor on my rear differential died on my truck a few months back, the ABS and O/D light would flash and no speed readings at all. Replaced the senor, around 20-25 bucks, and cured the problems.

Thats what I would start with also. I had similar problem and the speed sensor was the problem. Cost me around $12-15 bucks and 15min of time. Easy fix if if not the problem your only out small amount of cash. Not to mention a new speed sensor. Just make sure when you do it do not get any dirt in the rearend or you will have more problems.

Yea, definately wash the top of the housing off real good first, while under there wash some of the dirt off the frame and stuff as well, then it won't fall on you. I removed the spare tire so I could sit under the truck while I change the sensor out.
