At first I was leaning towards the Airaid and after hearing how loud they can be I was wondering how loud the Volant was. I also like the looks of both but I especially like the filter enclosed like it is on the Volant. Any thoughts or anyone that has actually heard both of them.
I have the Volant i live in cali and need to be smog legal.Ii think that there claim of 18 hp 40 tq is true ill find out when i find some one who will dyno tune a 04 F-150 any help im in L.A. O yea it is still loud but sounds like music to me
All air intakes are going to be louder than stock - hence the increase in air flow.
I've had my Airaid on for 12k and love it! With a flowmaster 70 single 3" and the intake, the truck's performance over short passing bursts and highway driving has increased substantially.
Do any of the cold air intakes allow you to keep the stock filter? I'd like to get a better delivery system (the bigger insulated tube) yet not have to oil the filter that comes with it. It's easier for me to just change the stock filter or get one of those green filters that aren't oiled (you just wash them out and dry them). Thanks.

I've read somewhere that the Volant is the one that has the biggest diameter tube and delivers the most air. That would be the one to choose. I just wonder if you can keep the stock filter with it.
I have the Airaid and love it except for one problem. It is not intended for off road use in the mud. The front of the box is open, and you get a lot of splash through there. Had mud splattered on the filter. I fixed the problem by forming a pice of sheet metal to deflect the water and mud. If you don't go off road then it's great.
Oh yeah....it is loud when you get on it......normal cruise is ok. Quicker response is worth it....It'll turn heads when people here it.
I have the Volant with Flowmaster 40 series and Supertuner chip. I had the Airaid on my last truck and did not like the high hissing sound. The Volant has a MUCH deeper throaty sound to it!!!! It was well worth the money!!!!
Installed K&N Air Charger. Great product. It will definitely increase the sounds when you gas it. It sounds just like the old 60's Quadrajet Carb with the air breather inverted. As far as performance, I can't tell that it did a whole lot other than give you the impression that it is peppier. When you stomp it to the floor, you can really feel it get up and go. But it may have been about the same with the stock system. I am not that crazy about the noise. Paid $251 to my front door.
I have an 04 FX4 5.4L. The airaid unit caused multiple vibrations in the truck. Looked good though. Sent it back and went to an AEM. Just as bad. Stick with the K&N. I think the throttle body adapter helps the air flow a little smoother and everything seems to fit alot nicer.
I ordered a Volant 19754 today from www.motorhaven.com. $277 inclucing shipping. The website says they have them in stock. The first indication I've seen in a couple of months of watching that the item wasn't on back order. I hope they have them.
