I agree gjm. In Ohio we can't take nearly that many deer, and the seaons are shorter, too. Yet there's still deer running all over it seems. I don't think we're as bad as Michigan though, like Edman said. Whenever I drive to Detroit, I see em laying all over the roads. Insurance companies must be going insane up there this tima year.
Extend.. in NY my Nephew lost his insurance after 7 deer incidents in 1 yr, my son has got more dear with his vehicles (inc his 69 F100) than gun. Lots of people like deer but not when they start eating their plants. Martinsville, VA has started to allow bow hunting within the city. Not as many hunters out there as in the past.
Having been around longer than probably most of the people on this forum I can remember when seeing a deer (S. michigan and Ohio) was a rarity. I know live in the West. Deer populations have been growing unchecked for years. Less hunters, to many Bambi mentality people and at least in the west many years of mild winters and unrealistic bag limits. An increae in hunters would help a lot. A relaxing of bag limits (extra deer could go to food banks and the needy ). This kills two birds with one stone, allows hunters to hunt and also feed those who need it. It would take some pressure on legislators to make this happen. Bow, black powder and shotgun (unrifled) would make for safe hunting in populated areas. By the way I have seven deer, one coyote and a windblown trash can in my years of driving.
there was a rumor circulating around here in southern Illinois for awhile that the idea of introducing elk was being tossed around. I'm almost positive that it was just a rumor, but can you imagine what one of those could do to an import.

Reason: mispelled word
Last winter I had a forest rat jump between my two trailors as I was driving down a back highway... Destroyed EVERYTHING I fully support unlimited hunting around eastern Iowa for a few years to thin those pesky forest rats
