ok, so one of the exhaust manifolds has cooling but the other doesnt? That doesnt make sense to me. I'll see if the damn Haynes manual tells me anything.
I'm guessing the airflow sensor tells the computer to adjust the fuel/air ratio? So where exactly would one put it now...maybe it just runs fine without it for some reason?
I have never seen a b2 or ranger with the 2.9l with maf with a cold air intake from a neon
the right exhuast manifold is the one that's the first one to go cracking
Why dosn't someone go onto Ebay, buy a whole bunch of the Neon CAI, then turns around, puts them back on Ebay, sell them listed as Bronco II CAI, and charge more? Sounds like easy money to me. Just requires up-front cost.
can anyone else confirm what monty06 says about the exhaust manifold?
The Rt side manifold brakes first on the Ranger/Bronco II 2.9L is because of stress, the exhaust system runs down the right side and if any of the support hangers brake/go bad all the weight is then put on the Rt. manifold, then they crack. There more reasons for them to crack but thats the main one.
The 90 moled 2,9l had a Mas. system on the Cal. engine only.
The tub from the manifold to the air box is there for the engine to get warm air off the manifold to the engine to warm it up faster, not to cool the manifold.
RomerB2 your avator is saying that your going no where fast. That poor little guy has been running his butt off for awhile now..LOL
Sorry for the thread hijack.
The 2.9's do not have a MAF sensor. They have a MAP sensor, but that is completely different. The shield and tubing that runs from the passenger side exhaust manifold is not for cooling. It's to warm the intake air on cold days. If you'll notice, the intake tube that runs from the core support to the air filter box has a flap inside where the manifold tube comes in. When the engine is cold and the outside air temp. is cold, this flap opens to let the heat from the manifold come into the intake. It helps to keep the intake temp. closer to the same temp. all the time.
I stand corrected. The have a MAP sensor. But some that where made for CAL. where builded with a MAF sensor,Thats how they passed the CAL. emissions. If you can find one of them the 4.0 swap is a lot easery and it has the d35 front end all you need is the 8.8 rear swap and you got a start of a great trail rig!
mine has a hose and a wire leading to the airbox. Swapped the airfilter for a new one, runs with a bit more pep and maintains speed in top gear better now.
Anybody know what the two hoses are on-top of the airbox? I took one off whenever I took the big hose that went from the airbox to some metal type hose, and it was connected to it.. I think I felt pseudo-pep from it.
