Does anyone know what it signifies (besides a costly trip to the dealer) when the air bag indicator is blinking? On startup, I get 3 blinks, pause, 7 blinks, pause... repeat several times, then on constantly. From what I've read I suppose it's trying to tell me the error code is 37. There are NO chimes going off.
The vehicle is a '01 Expedition XLT/Sport.
FWIW, the thing I was doing right before this happened was I plugged one of those 12V air pump gizmos into the cigarette lighter in front of the rear seats to re-inflate the rear tire, which had gotten low. This all went normally, then when I cranked up again to move on this happened.
Hi
I had the same problem with my 98. The problem with mine was the computer for the air bags died. Four hundred dollars later the light is off. Try disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes.
The dealer ended up saying it was a open circuit in the passenger seat wiring harness. Their initial quote was $275 or so, but then after I hemmed and hawed they came back and said that Ford had agreed to eat part of it and I would only pay $60. I thought that was fair enough, so hopefully they will have it back to me this afternoon. I've also got it in the shop for the 2nd sunroof shade repair. They say the parts kit on this job is different, so hopefully it's an improvement. They're doing that fully under warranty, so can't complain too much I guess.
(They're also doing some non-warranty brake work and I take about everything but routine oil changes to them, so I don't feel like a total mooch. Oh yeah, I bought the darn thing from their lot.)
I have a 97 Expedition and had the same problem. Mine started doing this and I scheduled a vist to the Ford dealership then before the visit my alternator and battery both went out. After that I still had the same indications for a few days then it just went away. The lite still works but no errors in the past four weeks.
Good Luck
