Anyone help
I have a 93 f250 non-turbo diesel. And I am a diesel novice. I just got the truck and it is somewhat hard to start cold. I notice white smoke that seems to go away after the truck runs a bit. I thought that the smke was gone alltogether however i did see a little even after truck ran a while, is this normal its not as bad as when first start, but truck does start hard at first then starts up easy. I am planning to check glow plugs. I am interested in checking on a price of a injector pump if glow plugs are not the problum. Anyone have any ideas what a new injector pump cost. Any help with these above listed items would be a big help. Also I forgot to get back to bchunter about my purminant oil filter. At this point I checked the filter and it does not have a name on the housing but it appears to be around 8" long and alum. cast goldish color. When i change the oil I will get back to you with more. Thanks donjette
Usually if its hard starting cold and emits white smoke when it does start - is a sign there are glow plugs not working properly. Try using the block heater a few hours prior to starting cold and see if that helps. I would be willing to bet the white smoke will have a rich fuel smell. Hope this helps you out a bit.
Is likely glow plug problem. I little white smoke at start up is quite normal. Excessive smoke may indicate other problems. Check each GP first and replace the ones that are bad. I would use Motorcraft GP, which are Beru (german) OEM plugs. You can get them at Auto zone for like $8.00. See if it acts the same after replacement. If it is the same, may indicate Fuel Pump or Head Gasket problem.
tdiracing and bilder12 I tested the glow plugs and 1 on the left side,(#3) was bad. I was going to just replace this one but I did not know when thay last were done so i wanted to start off with all. What a pain the one that is under the high pres.lines to get out. The smoke was fixed. This Is my first truck diesel 93 7.3 non-turbo F250 and after testing it, It can get up and go "gulya" now I know why I see these things pushing hard past me when im in my car, couse thay can. I was also interested if you guys may know if I would get any benafit? (spelling) from a k&n air filter. The housing for the air intake seems kind of restriktive. Its round and black has the big round tube going from intake to front of truck hood stock I think. Around the filter inside housing is a round fome filter then on inside is filter. Also was talking to bchunter attempting to find out what type of oil filter I have. The truck came with a sign on the dash that advised that I have a purminant oil filter, any ideas on any of these things would be greatfull. Thanks donjette.
Some people like K&N and some dont. Its your own comfort zone. The more air in and the more exhaust out, the better the operation of a diesel. They surely like to breathe easy and lots. The permanent oil filter - I personally have not dealt with them. I like to keep the internals clean. Even with the amsoil, recommended oil filter changes are required. All I can say is --- Its your scooter dude. Good luck and enjoy the ride. Bill
I use K&N filters in everthing I own. I am very happy with them. They may increase performance slightly, but the key to me is the fact that I can clean them at home in a few minutes and they last for ever. Beats buying throw away filters all the time and having to go get them.
