My brother has an 88 Ranger witha 2.9 v-6, the question is that it quit and hasn't ran since. Many parts were replaced by a friend of his that claimed all were codes on his scanner: Fuel regulator, injectors, PCM, TFI-module and that's what I am aware of. My question is I hooked up my OTC scan tool from work and picked up the code with the TPS BEING LOW-I am assuming low voltage and is out of range, and it said fuel pump secondary/ECA Ground does anyone got any ideas? I am going to check for spark, it has spark from the coil to the distributor, but I got to check from there. :
, Well I checked for fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge, I am getting about 39-40 psi when cranking the engine, when I turn the key on I am reading about 36 psi, but how fast is it supposed to bleed off after the key is turned off? I have spark, at the plug, I pulled #1 plug and checked it with a spark tester, the fuel in the line looked like it possibly had rust in it when I evacuated the fuel pressure line, the fuel filter has been replaced, but I seen a cannister on the frame rail, and from what I understand that there is a filter in there also, could it possibly be not enough volume, even though I have pressure. I also am going to drop the tank and clean it and put some fresh fuel in and see what happens, but other than that I am stumped?
Just some ideas..Before pulling it alll apart try a shot of starting fluid in the intake and see if it will fire. If not it may be a fuel problem. Listen to the injectors with a long screwdrive to your ear as it cranks to see it the injectors are clicking open. You can also pull the fuel line and bump the engine to pump it in a can to judge the quality. Be carefull, try to narrow it down before you start repairs.
