ok i this is the first exhaust system that im going to have. and i really dont know what to go with. i know flowmaster and magnaflow are good brands but i don no which muffler to get. i have talked to some exhaust people and they said get a flowmaster 40 series muffler and have a muffler place cuztom build the pipes. i want a single inlet duel outlet with duel split rear what should i get????
i want it to be loud but not annoying loud. just to where it sounds good and it is noticable. and will a flowmaster 40 series muffler with single in double out duel rear exit with like a 2 1/4 in pipe give me that sound or will it b like a rice burner
The Gison is pretty quiet, you might be better off with a 40 or 50 Flowmaster. For a V-6 go with 2" or slightly smaller for dual exhaust, 2-1/4 for single. Make sure you get mandral bent pipes, MUCH better exhaust flow.
Flowmasters sound like *** on Rangers. I would get Magnaflow...you won't be disappointed. Flowmasters sound OK as long as you keep the truck below 1500 RPM. Anything above that and they sound like garbage.
It's just my opinion, but a flowmaster does not sound good on any 4 or 6 cyl. Just happened to check this site the other day to see a price on headers (over 800? ouch) but they have a link to a 4.0 on this page with their headers/exhaust. Just something to listen too. If I had the extra money, I'd throw a gibson setup on just from the good things I've read about them.
The JBA system doesn't sound bad imo, but headers are going to change the sound.
I have a 40 series Flowmaster single in/dual out on my 2004 FX4 Level II with the pipes run out the back on either side of my receiver hitch with 3 1/2 inch polished stainless steel rolled edge slash cut tips. It does sound really good down low and howls pretty good between 2,500 and 3,200 rpms but kinda quiets down after that. It sounds good to me and I get a lot of compliments on it and it cost me $280 to have it done. Thats with buying the muffler and tips from the muffler shop and him bending all the pipe. I like it but thats just me. :-P
I put a gibson single in, dual side swept out. Sounds pretty good, not obnoxious and doesn't have that ricer howl. It's a 2 1/2 inch pipe in, and dual 1 3/4 out w/ what looks like 2 1/2 inch tips. Was a very easy install.

I have the Flowmaster Original 40 singlein/dual out also and it sounds absolutely great. It is a nice deep get noticed sound. I have 3 1/2" stainless steele Magnaflow tips at an angle out the rear. It cost me $180 and I had all the cat back pipes done (2 1/2"). Highy recommend. By the way I have a 2003 Ranger Edge 4.0 4x4. If you want to hear a bunch of clips, go to the Generation Edge website, there is a sticky in the forum of numerous trucks with different exausts.
