I have an 85 bronco ii with a 2.8 v6 and the 5 speed manual trans. i just bought it about 5-6 days ago. the clutch was slipping but only did it bad when it was warmed up like after 50 or so miles then it would slip under a load. so i replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throughout bearing, and the pilot bearing. well now it is worse that befor the new. the clutch never did engage untill about the last half inch of pedal travel. now it doesn't even grab till the clutch pedal is all the way out. it seems as if it would be fine if it would grab if the pedal had about anouther inch to go. i have bleed off the hydrolic clutch just like the book said to (loosen the bleeder screw push down the pedal tighten the screw let off of the pedal) with no luck. now it does suck down the fluid cause after each the rubber cup in the res. is sucked down and there is no fluid in it. i do get fluid from the bleeder screw. i haven,t seen any adjustment on the pushrod on the pedal maybe i am overlooking something. i hope you guys can help cause i really don't want to have to remove the tranny again!!!!! by the way it is a 4x4.
well i left the cap off of the reseviour for the clutch over night hooping the air would work its way out and still no luck!!!
i just bought a used clutch slave off of ebay for $11.50 with shipping should i try it when it gets here?????
sorry dude i don't know enough about clurches to advice ya. i paid someone to put the last one in my rig and they broke off some tranny bolts in the block now im going to have to fix that screw up !!!!!
good luck though (go ask your local ford garage what ya did wrong they might give ya insight )
ok i have found the problem!!!!!!! it was the clutch slave cylinder. the good part was that advanced auto had it for 98bucks and then they gave me a 10% discount for being in E.M.S. and FIRE. the bad was that i had to remove the tranny again. and the bellhousing had to come off. after another 7 hours under the truck the problem is fixed!!!!! a good word of advise is to replace the slave when you replace the clutch!!!!!!!!
When I had my clutch rebuilt a couple years ago, the shop told me they always rebuild the hydraulic cylinder for that reason. Of course, I was suspicious they were ripping me off, but it makes sense to do it while you've got it apart.
