I have a 1986 f350 2 wheel drive 4 door truck that has verry lose front callipers/brakes. the noise is so bad it drounds out the radio. if you apply a small amount of brakes the noise will go away. i have replaced the callipers with new reman units same problem. help i cant stand it any more!!!
Did you have the rotors turned/balanced? What type of pads did you put on it? Sounds like you replaced the cap. but not the pads or had the rotors smoothed out(Turned)
When i pellaced the callipers i did install new h/d life time pads.the roters were replaced with new just before i did csllipers/pads. the noise is werse when driving on a rough bumpy road. you can feel the loseness in the steering wheel.
If you're feeling it in the steering wheel, I'd be looking for a steering related problem. Upper and lower ball joints, loose tie rod end, drag link, etc. Sometimes applying brakes steadies these things, and it feels like another problem.
sorry but everything eather new or like new on steering new tires great ballance the pooblem is brakes, eather lose callipers or the pads ratteling bad. i cant imagene the pads making this noise. this isin't someyhing that just started, i have owned this truck for 12/13 years.the brakes were noisy when i bought the truck, but now it is worse. the speedo is 130,000. i know on some earler bendix styles there is a oversized key/spring kit to tighten the calliper to spindle . not avalable for this stile of brakes. i was hoping some one else had this problem and had a fix
Did you replace the brakes yourself? This is in reference to the calipers in particular...the pins that hold them in place wear out, and need to be replaced as well. Those pins will cause a rattle if not replaced every so often.
Is it chattering as you're going down the road? Sometimes when people do the brake pads replacement, they either leave off the anti-rattle clips or forget to put them back on....If you had the brake rotors turned/lathe, you would also need to repack the wheel bearing an/or replace them in the front rotors too. It all depends on the serviceman doing the job right.....
I installed a new pin & spring kit last night the noise is almost gone. the callipers are still lose on the spindels but the new pins realy helped a ton. i dont know for how long it will stay tight, with so mutch clearance between the callipers. is there a shim kit or anything to take up this slop??? I have never replaced the pins on any brake job unless they were in two pieces. i learned something today!
