I just set up my truck (BLK 04 FX4 scab) with the SuperChips microtuner & all I can say is wow - it can chirp in second gear! I have a question I thought others may be thinking about? What experiences do people have with high performance tunes and cold weather performance? I'm wondering about things like: cold weather starts, warm-up times or even more indirect issues like the stiff shifts on snow & ice?<O</O
Winter is coming (for a lot of us) and I'm sure Ford designs their software to accommodate cold climates - do SuperChips consider cold weather in their programming? Are there recommended settings for cold weather? Should we revert to factory settings in January...?<O</O
As far as heat up I was in mid 20's low 30's this weekend and the truack heated up just fine, no longer than usual. I have a magnaflow catback and 1714 tuner as well. As far as running on the white stuff with the shifts shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont get on it. I can ease into the gas and drive it soft enough that you dont get the hard shifts.
Tunes aren't written from scratch. Basically, Ford's tunes are taken and data tables and scalars are changed. The fact that the stock computer adjusts to air temp means that the performance tune will as well. Usually the greatest impact weather has on tuning is with supercharged applications because they are the most sensitive to air temp.
