Today for the first time, I made a sharp left hand turn at a traffic light, and the door ajar alarm went off. However, ALL doors were secure. Checked it after arriving home, then went to a shopping center parking lot for more left hand turns. EVERY time, the alarm went off! Doing right hand turns did not activate the alarm. Is this something to be concerned about? If so, any causes for this to occur?
Clean and lube the door switches inside the latch on the door. Sounds like one is not making a good switch action all the time. It is most likely in the right door where the problem is. Not a big problem but one to fix.
I have found if I do not give my rear doors a good firm closing that is what triggers my door ajar alarm.
Coincidence, but that was the very first thing I checked. You can't imagine the fear that went through me when the alarm went off, didn't have time to see the light come on due to the sun shiny bright day, and it drove me crazy until I had the time to study the dash. Will try it out tomorrow and will report back. Thanks!
If you have to shut the doors hard to stop the alarm from triggering, you may want to adjust the striker plate on the door jam. Sounds like it may be just a bit out of position to function properly. My Dad's '99 had that rear door problem until I adjusted it.
UPDATE: The alarm has been silenced by just a short burst of silicone spray into the door latch! Thanks for ALL the replies. :-) Yes, I'm a happy camper...
