I wish we had a track. The closest is 110mi from here. And no, my machine is a garage queen for the moment. I almost have the power steering done, and when it is I'll be able to take her for a spin again, but She'll be inside for most of the winter so I can finish up some of the things that aren't right yet.
Yeah Scouder I was wondering the samething, If Gtex has made it to the track or not. I hopefully will get to go the first of next month. I should have my heads back this week from the machine shop. the guy I am using has decided to open the heads up a little more than I did, his doing a bunch of extra work for me and keeping the price down. He is a old Ford Fe racer so knows exactly were to port and told me Friday he gives ford guys a little discount but you have to be patient with him.
He mentioned something about a motorcycle trip a long while back. A few days ago, he made an allusion to "getting a start on his bike trip" or something. Maybe he is on the move?
Ya I was hoping he had a chance too make it too the track also? I also wanted too tell Him unless he didnt mind sleeping on the couch? I couldnt board him for a night or 2.. My oldest daughter and her pit bull moved back home 2 weeks ago!! and what a mess my house has become...LOL!! well I guess he could always sleep in the barn?
Shoot after a couple beers it wont matter anyway..but it is getting cold here at night...
Still around. I aborted my motorcycle trip due to technical malfunctions (not the bike). I have to rethink my traveling strategy. Pocket PC was supposed to give me interenet access to email, weather.com and priclline.com for last minute hotel deals...The thing didn't work well at all, even in highly populate areas. So, I'll just have to take a decent rain suit and go for it or just take some shorter trips around the south. I originally hoped to ride to Rhode Island (2000 miles).
Anyway. I hope to make the track this wednesday night. Last wed. the weather did not cooperate. forecast for this week looks good and dry. although a bit warm, about 80 degrees at 9pm still....that's Fall in Texas..
The truck is running well. I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement through tuning. but, I think I finally have most of the major issues resolved. I think there is a lot of play in the rear end gears. I wish 4WheelParts would have said somthing when they installed the Detroit Locker. I don;t think I can break it, but it sure is annoying to put it into reverse from park. CLUNK!
Well, I got under there and did some investigating and it doesn't appear to the U-Joints or the carrier bearing. But there is a good 45+ degrees of play on the drive shaft. There is a little play (much smaller by comparison) on the yoke between the 2 shafts. I'm pretty sure it's in the diff :-(
As for blowing past some hemi etc, I don't think I could hook up enough to make a real race out of it :-) I really need my sticky tires. And I don't want to drive around on those. I'm actually afraid to stay on the throttle after about 70mph. It get's kinda scary. I need to save that for the track.
That would be so funny though, can you imagine the look on a Dodge guy's face if you passed him going sideways with the tire's smoking, " hey what you got in that truck?"
" Oh, just a 360", lol.
