I Have A 2001 Ford Excursion With 50,000 Miles. I Have A Slight Tapping Sound Coming From The Lower Passenger Side Of The Engine Compartment During Acceleration After Cold Start Up. As The Engine Warms To Operating Temp. The Noise Goes Away. The Vehicle Runs Like New And Is In Great Condition.
I Opened The Hood Of The Vehicle To Listen For The Sound And Could Not Hear It While My Wife Pushed The Gas. I Then Crawled Under The Truck And The Tapping Sound Was There.
I Am Unsure If This Is An Exhaust Leak Or An Internal Engine Problem. I Am Looking For Some Help Before The Dealer Takes Me For Everything I Got For A Repair I May Not Have Needed.
I Am New To This Site And Just Purchased My Excursion From Holman Ford Last Month.
I seem to remember hearing about the exhaust manifolds on the V10 having issues and leaking ? I have a smilar sound from the driver's side. I only hear it when the engine is under load, going up a hill, towing, etc... Mine sounds like a manifold leak. I will get it to the dealer when I have time.
The sound you may be hearing is a lose baffle located in the muffler. It only resonates at a certain rpm that produces a frequency it may even sound like a sucking of air. if this is the case its in the muffler.
I am hearing a sound like a sucking of air at 2000rpm's. I only seem to hear it in first or second grear. I just assumed it was the transmintion. Could this sound be a lose baffle in the muffler? If so, will it get worse and do I need to fix it? Will this cause any other problems?
It will not cause any problems just the fact you will always hear it. This may be covered under warr. maybe the dealer will replace it. If not this would be a great time for a new aftermarket exhaust......
had my excursion back at the dealer yesterday and they found the problem with my engine noise. well, it isn't piston slap, i have broken exhaust studs causing the manifold to leak. they ordered the parts and covered it under warranty. does anyone know how common this is or is it a defect with the v-10?
also just had the seats re-dyed by a leather specialist, interior looks like it just rolled off the show room floor.
