My front springs have been sagging for some time now. It’s finally gotten bad enough I can't keep the front end aligned. I remember reading a few posts here awhile ago about installing front air bags to level out the truck. But I can't seem to search the site at the moment. Does any one have the info on the "best" ones to get for our older trucks?
Firestone Ride Rite are available at NAPA for about 300 dollars a set.
Install is only about 4 hours for the set.
Helps the ride quite a bit since it is not bottoming out all the time also.
I found the "same" thing online for 240.00. From the directions it looks like you need to drill 8 holes in the frame. The last time I tried that it was to install a hitch on a diffrent truck, and it wasn't pretty. How hard is it to drill through the side of the frame.
It is not to bad, do have a couple of extra bits though.
I have a low RPM angle drill that made short work of it.
Keep squirting oil on the drill bit so it does not overheat.
Taking the wheel off and lowering the front axle on a sturdy block also helps.
Also do not forget to see what is on the other side of the frame.
not quite a piece o cake but not bad use nitride bits and pilot hole took about 3 hrs may need to use different set of holes than plans say to keep bags from rubbing .
Thanks for the advice, This looks like the way to go I just need to find the time to get them ordered and Installed. The set I found online are firestone ride rite's that dave menchoned for 240.00 I checked today at NAPA and they were 315 (like dave also said) The onlines one have a 2 year 24k mile warrenty. Is there any advantage paying more at NAPA?
