I have an 84 e150 I6 auto, just had a full tune up replaced egr valve and the C.C. is new. I'm still only getting 12 on the highway, have I missed something.
Will a weak fuel pump give poor mpg, it seems a little sluggish starting off.
Will a fuel pump give any sign of failure before breaking down completely?
One more thing the carbon canister filter is 20 years old, isn't this as easy as changing an oil filter. Also do any other emission related items come to mind?
Dan, I suspect you are looking on the wrong end of the truck. You probably have a low rear end ratio and the engine is lugging. If you have a high speed hiway close by, try running it 100 miles at 75-80 mph and see if the mpg doesn't improve. Your truck needs something like a 3.75 ratio to make the 6 happy.
