1999 Explorer Hard Starts
My 1999 Limited Edition (V6- OHC) sometimes has a hard time starting (after sitting for more than 1 hour) and also runs a little rough on idle- occasionally just missing a beat while idle. No other symptoms - same MPG, runs good under normal driving & heavy acceleration.
I have replaced my plugs, wires and fuel filter. What could I be missing?

It's a ghost. My wife's 98 Explorer does the same thing. It has a sticker under the hood that says reprogrammed PCM, but other than that I dunno. All I can say is, when ours wont start, we let it sit for 5 minutes and then it starts no problem. Been in the shop a million times but they cant find the glitch. I've tried plugs, wires, filters, etc.... Nothing has worked yet, and we too have the shudder.

It's not a ghost
It's probably your Idle Air Control Valve. Check the sticky at the top of this forum for all the information you need to test and replace it. I had the exact same problem and Wolfmeister's post helped me.
