134a gauge hook-up

I just got a new 134a manifold gauge, and the hoses don't easily hook up to the high/low side ports. I thought all 134a connectors were standard. Anyone had problems with misaligned connectors that could make the hook up difficult? Thanks.

They should connect unless there is someting wrong with either the gauge set or vehicle fittings. Sometimes the connects can be a pain. Make sure the fittings are clean. You might try and coat them with some refrigerant oil to get the connection to make a little easier. Be sure to support the fitting as you press the gauge set connector on to the fitting so you don't bend or kink the tubing.

Is it an OEM R134 system or a conversion? I converted mine and there are different types of screw on adapter fittings. Some have their own schrader valve and you must remove the original schrader; some just go over the top of the original threads and reuse the schrader valve.

To answer your original question, I've never seen any different size or shaped fittings between my R134 factory equipped cars or the conversions.

Well, tried the hook up again this weekend. The low side hose is no problem. The high side hose just does not want to couple. I can slide the outer ring back, and push the coupler onto the service fitting. I know it engages the valve because if I don't hold it in place, refrigerant escapes. But, the outer ring just won't slide forward to lock the coupler in place.

I'm beginning to think it may be a bad service fitting.

Thanks.
