99 Windstar

I have a friend with 99 3.8 V6 Windstar the heater works sometime and now he called and said his cooling fan is running all the time. Does anyone have an idea where to start?

OK start with the basics, coolant level, antifreeze in the oil (headgasket), heater lines are they both hot or is one cold indicating a plugged heater core. Fan on all the time is indicative of the engine running hot or the A/C or defroster on or the coolant level being low which will also cause intermittent heater problems. How many miles on the engine? Has the cooling system been serviced regularly? The 3.8 FWD is notorious for headgasket problems.

head gasket problem pretty well taken care of by 99.
