I just bought a 00 PSD 4x4, and everything has been fine, and I went and parked it, and my mom came to take it home and she started it, went to back it up and it died, and you could start it up and it would die at idle, and then you could start it and idle it up and it would cut-out, it wasn't a mechanical cutout, it was too quick to be mechanical. This is quite frustrating having a family that owned fords for the last 60 years, and two have to problematic powerstrokes in a row. Shoulda bought a dodge.
Can you help me out here. I just bought a 96 PSD Dually Crew Cab, two wheel drive, 200,000 miles. Only have driven it about 150 miles or so. It has stalled twice. Just shut right down. First time, when it was cold. About 35 degrees. Started up with about 5 seconds of turning. Let run for about two minutes, then started to drive. Pulling out of driveway, just shut off, just like I had turned the key. Without thinking, I just automatically hit the key, and it started right up. I drove it for an hour, no problems (shifted funny while cold, but after warmup, everything was good). It was at the shop for 3 hours getting a different hitch, and brake controller installed. I then drove it another hour home. Pulled into a fuel station, fueled up, and when leaving, did the same thing again. Is this similiar to above problem, and if so, what are the CAMPS??? If not, any ideas?
camshaft position senser=CPS, Sounds like that to me. It is on the flywheel. About $80 bucks from International dealer, fairly easy fix. I recommend picking up a Chilton's repair manual. Just my.02
A bad CAMP will cause the tachometer to stay still while cranking. If your tach doesn't move than it is probably the CAMP. See the International dealer and give them the build date from the passenger side valve cover sticker. There are 2 part numbers to choose from and the date will ensure you get the right one.
This sensor can be very intermittent and you may not always get a trouble code when they fail.
Well, I took it to the stealership(I called them, still had some warantee left) and they pulled the codes and it was the CAMP. They told me it wouldn't cost a thing so I had them fix it, well I went to go pick it up and there was a bill for the friggin deductable. I asked specificly about it too. I was really hot and called everyone in there a dirty name, I sure hope I didn't miss anybody :reallymadsmileyhere: Especially after I could have bought an ebay camp for 49 bucks and did it myself.

That'd be a used CMP would it not at that price. If not please share the link so we can all enjoy the savings.

Jesse460 beat me to it, but I found another buy it now for 49 bucks, it is gone now though. I have been watching and going to buy one, I knew it would go out, but it got me off gaurd.
Wow, that's the best price I have ever seen. I need a spare too. Thanks for the tip.
Make sure it's the correct part # for your truck. I think I remember a couple folks with late models getting rolled by an e-bay seller because he was selling the CMP for the earlier trucks.
International's # for our (99+) trucks is 1825899C93. I don't know for sure that the parts are not interchangeable.
