1988 Ranger Door hinges
Here's the deal, I have a 1988 Ford Ranger Ext cab. I am about to replace the "driver's side door hinges", and don't want to run into trouble in the cold weather. It (looks) like a simple job, however, I have never tore into something that ended up being simple. So, has anybody ever done this before, and does anybody have a few pointers to make this job as simple as possible?? Thanks in advance for any help. Later!
-put a bead of masking or electrician's tape down each body line on the front of the door and the fender. This'll stop the paint from chipping when you bash the door into the fender. It's gonna happen, no matter how careful you are.
-mark aropund the hinges you're taking off with a marker. I use a water soluble or grease marker. That'll help you put the new hinges in the right location.
-after you mount the new hinges using an assistant!!! close the door very slowly and carefully, making sure the door doesn't bash into the fender, floor and upper sill.
-bodyman's rool of thumb "make sure it's flush" if the door sticks out further than the fender, it's gonna get chipped by rocks from the front tire, and if the door sits inside the rear of the cab, the cab will get chipped by rocks.
don't try to do it yourself using your knee and a milk crate, the door is heavier than it looks, especialy when you'r trying to get the bolts started...

Thanks, big time. First off, might I add, know matter how simple it looked, "it sucked" big time. Then, I need to throw this in as well, "this really is a "two person" job, you are very correct.......WOW. I tore into this myself at first, and when I "started peeling paint", I decided to get help. Bye the way, I now understand why you through the comment in about being a "body guy". Hopefully once I get this thing back out of the body shop, that door will be done and overwith. But, once again, Thanks a bunch!
