Well she’s on the road and running, Thanks to the help from this forum I
Was able to do the following
Install disk brakes ( power )
Install Pw steering
Install a holley carb and get it set up and jetted
Install a pertronics unit in my distro,
Fix my 3 speed overdrive trany
In addition I have done the following, upgraded and cleaned up my wireing
Removed the “Amp” meter and installed a voltmeter in it’s place
Converted my alt to a single wire solid state regulator system.
Removed the kickdown switch, built a relay system and now have a Kickdown system for the trany.on the wheel,
She runs great and is a kick to drive, added konie shocks and a big antisway bar to the frount, and air shocks to the back.
Have some oil leaks to fix, and then some minor body stuff, and interior stuff planed.
Can you tell me a little bit more about the kickdown? There is an extra lever on my C6 that I don't know what it is, and have heard a lot about kickdowns. What do they do, how do they do it, and what does all this do for the performance of the truck? (mine is a 61 if that matters, 390/C6, floor mount B&M shifter)
Thanks, Randy
Mine is the old style manual 3 speed with overdrive the kickdown switch was located behind the throttle pedal and what it did was kick the overdrive out and back into 3rd gear for power on hills and passing. On a automatic it is a bar or cable that when you punch the throttle kicks the trany down into 2nd gear. for passing and such. It needs to be possitioned ( the bar or cable ) so it activates at the proper time. I was gona convert to a C6 ( I have all the stuff ) but the overdrive is nice ( 1850 RMP at 60mph ) I am going to run it this way a while and see how driveabull it is. with the Pw steering a clutch is not so bad
