The truck has been sitting almost a year and the electric choke does not seem to be working right. When I go to start it it almost cranks but i have to give it gas to get it started but then it has a very low idle. Can someone please tell me what the ploblem might be and what i need to do or buy to fix it.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Dec-02 AT 10:58 PM (EST)]ahh.. then there is no choke. I'd check the trouble codes, buy a haynes repair manual. Pick up a can of carb cleaner and pull the air filter hose (check the air filter). See how it cranks with the air filter out. Make sure the throttle body is closing all the way. Use the carb cleaner(and an old tooth brush) to clean it. Will probably be black (which is normal) with crud. But if it will run, I'd drive it for a few days before I started changin out sensors (trouble codes) because some of them may just need alittle use after sitting for so long.
If you have a 2.9 it is not carberated, I wouldn't use carb clearner it can kill your o2 sensor. they have throttle body cleaner for use on injected motors. sounds like your IAC (idle air control) could be plugged with some junk Check all the tubes coming off your throttle body and clean them out if they need it.
