I have a 95 ford explorer 4x4 with 130 thousand miles on it. I just changed the brakes on the front end today Calipers and brake pads. bled both lines and no air bubbles. The brakes work fine, but there is a slight fade to the brakes like the anti lock system is pushing against the peddle. Also it don't happen all the time.
Is there a way to reset the anti lock system.
If you have intermittent false ABS activation at low speed on dry pavement, you need to take the front ABS sensors out to clean the mounting surface underneath. The rust builded up lifted the Sensor up slightly to cause the problem.
It's on top of the wheel hub, just behind the brake rotor splash shield. Take off caliper, caliper bracket, rotor, splash shield, one hex bolt securing the ABS Sensor. It is a tight fit, soak it with lots of penetrating oil before removing it slowly, the sensor is all plastic, so be gentle.
Thanks Pax....I posted this question a couple weeks ago, you answered me, I followed your instructions, my ABS is sweet again. Actually, the o-rings were a little torn, and I'm wondering if FORD actually REPLACED the sensors last year when I took it in. I'm thinking maybe all they did was clean it off, as I have now done, and put them back...charging me for new sensors along the way. There's no way I ripped up the o-ring that bad pulling it out...I was VERY gentle with it. It came quite easily actually. I should have replaced the orings but didn't....if it happens again sooner than I like, I'll purchase new orings. The right side was the culprit...tons of gunk down there...I cleaned it up real nice.
First tire took an hour....second tire took 20 minutes. (once you do it once, it was a sinch)
