2000 XLT not starting

My 2000 XLT (4.0 OHV V6) is being difficult. Here's what happened: earlier today, it took probably 20 tries before it started. It spun over fine, would catch a couple of times, then die. It finally started, then it ran fine on the drive home. No idiot lights or any other sign of distress. I went out this evening and it started on the first try no problem. Then on leaving for home, it didn't start at all. The first several tries, it would again catch a couple of times and die. Then it just wouldn't catch at all. I don't remember hearing the fuel pump turn on, but I would have to try it again to be absolutely sure, and it's at the shop right now. I did try turning the key on and leaving it there for a few seconds to build pressure in case the pump was weak, but that didn't help.
I am guessing fuel delivery problem. Is there anything cheap and easy I can try, since it's at the shop (sitting outside) and won't be looked at til Monday?
Thanks,
Ryan

Dealer called me and let me know they finally tracked down the problem: loose connection at the inertia switch. Mechanic said it looked like someone had kicked it. Where is it located?

As far as I remember the fuel cutoff switch is located beside the passenger foot-well
