Things to look for when buying them, like rust and such.
Other things to check to make sure they are right.
its a 4x4 black with the orangeredyellow whatever they are decals. i guess only like 3800 of these were made. maybe its 38000, anyways its rare(er)
Not sure if its the 351 c or 390, tahts what i wanna find out also.
What tranny did these usually come with.
gas mileage estimates should be nice too.
36 gallon tank on bronco's right?
Rear tailgait ez fixes? or something i gotta put some big cash into if there is a lil rust.
Bed rust in the rear section, how bad this usually be in the older bronco's?
Cause all the blazer styles rust back there.
EDIT:
thought of some more.
breaks and drive train mostly the same as thew newer vehicles?
Just curious for thingsl ike braek pads and calapers, and things like bolt pattern for the older 5 bolt rims. They the same as the 86-95 bolt pattern?
I got my nice aluminum rims and bfg's to go around, there 5 bolters.

It's not a 390. it's a 351m/400 most likely!! Just about the same componets as all 73/79 Ford trucks If i'm not mistaked they all came with 351m/400 motors!! C6 trannys!! Same ford bolt pattern!!
Most likely a 351M. tailgate can be replaced with one from the early 80's if need be. Gas tank is either a 25gal or 32gal. if its a 36, it aftermarket. no real difference when changing the brakes/calipers. just be surre to check ALL the brake lines for rust at the fittings. if original automatic, C6 tranny is installed, which is a 3 speed auto. Check out www.projectbronco.com for lot more details about the truck. the have original ford literature on the site that was from dealerships.
Bed rust, depends on how the truck was cared for and where it was used, heavy salt area or not.
Guy basically explained to me that it can smoke most now day street cars.
dont think its 460.
you guys sure about it being a c6?
3 speed seems like it would suck with a big engine and rev high doing 70-80
351W=small block, shares some components w/ 302/289, same bellhousing
351C=Totally different, lets not get into it. Don't think it came in trucks.
351M=Is a 400 BB w/351 W crankshaft and different pistons. Why? you ask, so do I. Ford guru's correct me but I think they all had the same bore and stroke, 4X3.5?
A 79 would have the 351M or 400 and a C6 auto, Bet its a 2 barrel carb!

i know there are lots of difference between cleavland and windzor. but that seems wierd the m has a 351 crank,
probably one of those thing sto help solve the 440 383 battle. so they did in the middle. for big block power with small block revs.
however. 400 is not a big block, its a small block just an FYI for ya.
The 351M has a 3.5" stroke while the 400 has 4.0" stroke. Thats where the extra cubes come from but more important in a truck nearing 5000 Lbs is the extra stroke gives you more torque. Both motors have the 385 series (big block) bolt pattern. The bolt pattern on the wheels is 5 x 5.5 but somewhere in the 90's I think Ford went to a different pattern. Still 5 lug but possibly 5"spacing....not positive maybe someone else knows for sure. The trans if auto should be the C-6 then there is 2 choices of transfer cases, a fulltime case which is the NP203 or the parttime case which is the NP205. Main rust problems are the tailgates and doors and as far as mechanical stuff you could say similar to later model trucks just alot less complicated. There are a few good sites about these trucks with a wealth of info, one mentioned above will have just about anything you need or do a search on the net for others. In general a good strong truck that will take a beating and ask for more, as long as you can afford to keep feeding them. They usually average anywhere between 9 and 13 MPG with the auto trans but I have seen a few sticks that have hit 17 MPG firsthand.

talyn, you're right, I meant the 351M/400 are "physically" much larger than a windsor. I believe they are the "335" family of engines along with the 351C, while the 429/460 are the "385" family, all same bellhousings and all could be considered "big" blocks though not in the same sense as GM with only two blocks.SB and BB. My old Ford performance book mentioned the 351M was a 400 block with 351W crank and rods with really tall pistons to make the 400 block's 4" stroke (does that make sense???). The 351M is a good motor as long as you get an aftermarket 4BBL intake (351M and 400's have 351C heads with the big valves)
