I have a 88 ranger custom, a 2.9 V6 and i also got a 1990 5.0 stang that got rear ended pretty bad but the drive train is in perfect condition. i was wondering if it would be posible to use the engine , rad, tranny and axle on to my ranger or it wont work
And also i was wondering if anyone heard of a ranger XLT-V8 i saw it on the freeway once and it look stock to me and someone told me that its true and its special order but not sure it look like the 90's type , i dont know.
i was wondering if ill have a big problem because i have a king cab and drive shaft had a u-joint can i use the same shaft??? or i need to get a custome one
i think u can use the same one i did and all i had to do was change the yock that goes in to the trans if it is 2wd u should have no prob useing the origenal shaft
that will be a pretty cool swap but you will indeed need a custom driveshaft. and while you are at it id think strongly bout puting that 8.8 stang rear under the truck. it will last alot better then that 7.5 currently under it. by the way, there was never a v8 in a ford ranger from the factory that was put into production.
I always wondered why ford never put a 302 in a production ranger. It would make for a pretty neat truck.I did a 429/C6 in an '84 short box a few years ago.It was fairly easy.It looks stock exept for the narrowed rear and fat rear tires. That 7.5 won't last long with a good 302.Mine only lasted a day and a half;-) A 9" from an early bronco bolts right up tho.
dose ne one have a price estimate on the entire project as a whole, because i have a 4 wheel drive 88 ranger with the 2.9 and im turning it into a mud truck and im thinking about swaping to the 302.
You don't have to get a custom drive shaft, you can have yours shortened or lengthened. To use the stang rear you may need to do a little fab work, but well worth it. I just saw a tech article over at rps on installing a T-5 stang tranny in a ranger, with a donor vehicle, it should be easy. James Duff has an installation kit for those without a donor car, it can also help those who do with headers and such.
