For the last few months ive been in search for an air injection kit for my 87 F150. Ive checked K&N, Volant, and a whole list of other companies and had no luck. Then it occured to me, im going to have to fabricate my own, so just to see what it would do i pulled off the bottom section of my air box (intake pipe running into the grill). This modification gave me what feels like 20hp, but it almost seems like the engine is putting out too much power, is this possible? I know im not getting cool, dense air anymore, but the difference in how its flowing more than makes up for it in performance. Will this mod cause any long term problems?
Also any idea on how i could make a suitable high-flow intake for this truck?
thankyou
I had a muffler shop make me a y pipe with a 3 in inlet for a cone filter and 2 2 1/2 inch outlets that i clamped the stock air tubes onto. Got major power for 40 bucks. As far as i know there are only benifits. Now dusting that can be caused by the stock air box and more air flow for better fuel burn. Don't get a K&N, get a disposable paper filter. K&Ns can flex and let small particles thru if not perfectly clean. Plus paper are cheaper by far.
Could you take a picture of your mod and maybe share it with us so we can see what you did. I'm playing with the Idea of doing a modification to my 95 F-250 and going as far as changing my exhaust system also. I put a larger fuel tank on the truck, got a 40 gal. Tank and fuel sender for a little more than 400 S&H greenstamps, How many of you on the forum remember them.hihi
