Question "stock" performance

Have been reading a lot of threads in this section lately while I ponder what to build for my fathers 79 Bronco mud racer over the winter. This type of racing is more or less a tough truck race in the mud, so throttle response is a huge factor. Running 31 inch tires and 3.55 gears and most likely on the low side of T-case unless the engine makes enough torque to utilize high side. Due to the "stock" category of the class, we will be forced to use the factory 2V intake and cast iron exhaust manifolds, hoping to locate a 2V factory carb from a 429 or other big block that has the largest flow (1.33 marking I believe) So far I have gotten a set of stock type forged TRW pistons in 30 over and dropped the block off at the machine shop.Planning on having the block and heads milled to get about 9-9.5 CR, ARP rod bolts and balancing the lower end. Heads will be factory 2V with polished chambers and cleaned up ports, also planning on stainless valves, and roller rockers. Will shift kit the tranny, and set the shift modulator to shift as soon as possible to hopefully stay in the low end torque that I hope the engine will be making and maybe add a TCI street fighter torque converter(just because I have it) The only part I am not decided on is the cam-I was going to go with a high lift, short duration for low end torque, but some on this forum have advised others against that type of cam with that much compression because of detonation concerns. This Bronco is for racing only but I dont want to resort to racing fuel- I'd like to keep it streetable in case the engine will be used for street driving someday. Any thoughts out there about cam selection or something I've overlooked??????

Before I ever buy one I call the company. They have engineers and dino results to back up there recomendations. To me it's too big of a decision to take a stab at.

I guess I forgot to state that it is a 400 engine being built.
