Dumping the rear tank

Would it be o.k to just leave the rear tank off of my '94 f150? I have dual tanks and my problem is that the fuel pump is almost dead and there is a crack in the tank and it's leaking gas everywhere. My front tank is fine but needs a new fuel pump. So I was thinking that since the front tank is bigger, maybe I could just use my front tank instead of replacing 2 fuel pumps and a tank. What do you guys think about this idea? If I did this I could also do the dodge shock mount thing, where the shocks are mounted one on either side of the axle.
Any insite would be frigin wicked....lol.. thanks guys.

I just want to make sure we're on the same page - you're asking if you can just use the front tank, right? If that's the question, the answer is of course you can. What would prevent you from just using one tank? Just don't put gas in the other tank, and don't flip the tank selector switch.

Ya but the tank is all rusted out and leaks gas. Plus with salt and sand coming this winter wouldn't it be bad for my "dieing" fuel pump it anything got in there? I dunno, I just wanted to ask if getting rid of that rear tank is such a big problem. I guess I should leave it alone. My fuel pump is on the way. Has anyone ever bought a fuel pump from a guy who calls himself Mr. Fuel Pump? I bought it off ebay for less than half of what I'd pay here. I paid $113 and he told me that if it wasn't the right part he'd refund my money. I guess I got a deal but I'll have to wait and see when it get's here.

I paid $130 for my rear pump and $100 for the tank. Miraculously the straps were fine. If you wanted to hold a bunch of fuel you could get the Bronco sending unit and tank and have a 38 gallon tank back there.

Realizing that you don't intend to use the rear tank also remember that an empty tank is asking for condensation to accumulate inside and will probably work its way into the supply line going forward. Could cause water to work into the front line during non operational times. Just a thought. My book says that there is an internal check valve and shuttle valve in (I assume) each tank Pump and Sender unit which will have to work to prevent fuel from front tank going into rear tank. Food for more thought!

Need a inline fuel check valve??

Sounds like fuel is being pumped to your bad tank. It may need a fuel line check value. See alldate.com for recall, may still be covered. With my 87 i blocked off the two hoses going to the bad tank at the selector value. I used with two sizes of rubber hoses and two bolts and 4 clamps. I taped up the fuel line so i could use it later. I dont think you have a selector valve though??? You will only be able to drive about 200 miles before filling up. How well does your fuel gauge work?
