Fire from rebuilt carb ???

Fire coming out of newly rebuilt carb upon 1st startup???

I just rebuilt a Motorcraft 2150 for my 76 highboy with a 360 and upon 1st startup, after cranking for a while to get gas to it, it tried to start but fire popped out of the carb. I dont wanna try again now until I find out why that happened? Any ideas?

You may have ruined your power valve, though. I have had that happen a lot. I think timing can cause it, but once the truck is all tuned up, shouldn't happen. I had a few fires. Quite spectacular in the dark

ya, tahts blow back, or to much gas in teh carb i think.

shoudlnt' have had to crank to get gas in there if its a carb.

could it have been the float?? Today I tried it again and it started but gas flooded all over the engine....a LOT of gas. I think my float is out of adjustment. What do you all think?

yeah if gas is flooded the engine your flost is not right what did you sent it at and is this your first rebuild

well I have rebuilt a single barrel from a 300 inline 6..and had no problems......this is a two barrel 2150 and I did not set the float at all when I rebuilt it. I just let it the same as it was before I rebuilt it figuring it was set OK then cuz it ran. I guess not. I will be messing with it tonight so maybe you can give me some tips.
