So last night i was driving my truck and I downshifted and punched it and BOOM! I thought I blew up my rear end so I costed to a stop and put it in 4x4. Nothing happened so I got under the beast and saw my driveshaft that goes from the tranny to the transfer case(NP205) hanging(see pic). Do I need to pull the tranny to fix it? its not just the u-joint that broke either. Any ideas on cost? Do i need any special tools? thanks.

the yoke on the tranny slips out, the one on the T-case has a nut holding it on.
you don't have to pull the tranny.
get on the parts off and take them to a driveshaft shop and have them make you a new one.
get only Spicer joints.

Uh, that's a 435NP in the pic, so the tranny yoke doesn't just "slip out" (and autos w/a divorced 205NP don't have slip-yokes either do they?). You should be able to change the yoke without pulling the tranny, just get the right torque on the nut (and possibly a new nut, not sure if it's a one-use, or what). The nut sometimes has a shoulder that is peened into an indentation in the output shaft threads, so take a good look at the nut and make sure it'll come off without a big hassle, otherwise try to bend out/grind off the bent-in part of the nut. Same for the tranfer case.
I've busted u-joints before, but was lucky enough not to break the yokes
