J-C, taking general classes now. Bio, English, Spanish. I want to register for paralegal courses next semester, or whenever I have all the pre-recs out of the way.
I'd also like to take EMT training sometime. Seems like noble profession.
I have an advanced degree from the School of Hard Knocks, and I gaduated with honors from the Star Fleet Academy.
I'd love to share my thoughts on the education system in this country (particularly the so-called "higher education"), but it would border on political so we won't go there.
1956... I too have a disdain for the "Academics" - I mean the ones that purport that their knowledge is the be all and end all.... taught by some profs that have never been in the work force to KNOW what real life is like....
especially given the skewed politcial approach some of them take....
but with ANY generalization... even like "Trucks owners aren't educated"
you are wrong in SOME instances....
ANY time you use the word ALL - you are probably wrong in some cases.... (that goes for ANY which I've used myslef on occassion ) so I'll still make my generalizations too

a college degree helps to tell you more about the person than the knowledge itself...
it means they can "finish" something - that's about the measure of it...
yes, there's some learning going on there, but it has to be put to use, or there much be some experience appied before it becomes "know"ledge
just like I've found in my work, have had "trained experts" come in spouting their credentials and while they TALK a good game... a few pointed questions and you figure out you'll still have to do most of the work to get it right
ok, off my soapbox at the speech rally in the quadrangle

I picked JC, because that's the highest level I've yet surpassed, although I am currently in my fourth year at a major university, and will eventually graduate... with a little luck.
I too, think the higher education system in this country is a major joke. I do understand and agree with the fact that the main point of having a degree is to prove that you have the drive to get it done, but would it not be nice if I could learn something along the way too? Otherwise, as far as I am concerned, I am just wasting my time. Once, when I went home to visit during my freshman year, I told my parents, "You go to college to get a degree, not an education," and it's the truth.
Had one semister @ Texas Tech when I got drafted in 1966 (3 hour Accounting Lab didn't count towards deferment). 4 years in US Army and 31 years in UpJohn/Dow and retired @ age 55. Never went back for a degree, but helped train a lot of engineers who did. My daughter made me proud when she graduated from Portland State, so I am proud for her degree!

Alvie.
Might I suggest staying college and getting a degree in nursing. Just about twice to four times the pay. Much less hassle, about the same amount of lawsuit risk.
BA in computer science and a Masters from Penn State in Information Science (more computer junk). However, I am currently enrolled in the local community college in the auto tech program.
I have a masters degree in Special Educaiton and ESL instruction and a BS in Biology and BA in History.
Would the ESL be the abbreviation for english sign language by chance. I took a full year of American sign language for my foreign language credits. I graduated in May of 2004 with a BA in Administration of Justice and a minor in Political Science, I double majored in the two for a while but changed the POLS to a minor to graduate early.. I also have an Associates in Applied Sciences in HVACR technology and was a sheetmetal worker for three years. I actually thought when I started on my bachelors degree that I would probably never use my AS degree again, I was wrong. I used that degree to get the job I have now that pays more than nay cop job I ever looked at, now i only hope I'll never have to use my BA degree.
I also hold a Ph.D. in BS, BS'ing or however you want to look at it.
The only thing I have completed from the list is a GED. I only spent two semesters in a public college, but I have many certificates of training, which make good scrap paper
