They made the flareside through the entire run of 80-86 body style trucks, all with the same cab and stepside bed. I don't know any production numbers, but you don't find nice ones for sale too often, I don't think they made too many to start. For 87 the stepside bed is very similar, but you have the different cab with the flat front. In pre 80, the stepsides had a different bed on them.
the beds were the same from 80-86 with the 87 have only the different front clip and the rear fender flairswere made to match the front (very rare), but actually ford didn't make to many of these, i see more chevs and newer ford flares than ones like mine. If you go back a page or 2 you can find a thread called flareside owners unite, show off your flares, you will see a lot of nice flares in that thread.
Yeah, they are nice trucks. I have debated selling mine but I don't think I will. I just wish the body was in better shape! It runs EXCELLENT mechanically though! And by the way, Welcome to FTE!
Thanks! My dad had an 81 stepside and it had the 300-6 in it but the doors and front fenders were pretty beat up. He took it to the scrap yard and we went back like 2 weeks later and they had set it aside. Now I wish we would have kept the bed, bumper and taillights.
Doors and front fenders cost almost nothing and are easy to replace, its these beds that cost a fortune, 1000 bucks to replace the wood bed properly. But just the bed alone is worth keeping the truck around even if the rest of the truck is beat to crap.
