I'm looking at a set of pacesetters that are in the $200 neighbor hood..catch is that it says they fit 97-01 5.4L motors.
those have a 3 year warranty and 1 year warranty against rust those arent very good headers they rust out bad. i'd go with some gibsons' or anything stainless they last massively longr and gibson gives a limited lifetime warranty on their stainless ones. but i have the 4.6L in my truck and i'm gettin some Long tubes that got on the GT they will bolt on and underbody clearance is same so they will work. already talked to mechanics and the makers or the headers and they said they will work fine
good luck with the torque wrench. I didn't have much. I had to torque the few I could get to and get a feel from them with a wrench. Then torque the rest with a normal wrench using the "feel". Worked good. Havent had any leaks yet.
remember if using new gaskets when u first install headers a week later u will need to re-tighten the header bolts because the gasket should have conformed itself better to the engine and headers
I started yesterday morning at 8:00am and had the truck running by 3:00pm.
I had a boat load of trouble with getting the EGR tube to reach the new headers, but with a pipe wrench and a 4ft cheater bar, plus a friend, I finally persuaded the tube to go on the header after about a 1 hr of incessant cussing.
I still have plans for a tech article, but as of now I just posted some pics in my gallery.
So far I feel that they were well worth the 7 hrs it took to put them in my self.
The motor really pulls harder in the 1500 rpm + range. This comming weekend I will be going on a hunting trip, so I am curious to see if there is any mpg gains.
